1990
Sekisui House’s dedicated research and development facility opens in Kyoto, Japan, focused on delivering technology, design and lifestyle innovations.
1995
The first SHAWOD home is built in Japan, driven by demand for highly engineered housing to endure extreme weather conditions, such as earthquakes.
1999
Sekisui House commits to sustainable leadership with the launch of a yearly Environmental Action Program.
2001
The five trees – or Gohon no Ki – landscaping concept is announced by Sekisui House to promote conservation of biodiversity, and is adopted in every SHAWOOD community.
2008
Sekisui House unveils its first sustainable concept home, the Zero Emission House, to the general public at our factory in Kanto, Japan.
2009
Sekisui House acquires development sites in Australia, setting the stage for SHAWOOD in Queensland and New South Wales.
2010
Our Manufacturing & Quality Control Centre opens in Ingleburn, NSW, Australia’s first SHAWOOD factory.
2012
SHAWOOD concept homes are launched in Coolum and Gledswood Hills, gaining industry acclaim while introducing the SHAWOOD lifestyle to Australian homebuyers.
2013
Our Ecco Ripley community in Ipswich, Queensland, begins construction, highlighting SHAWOOD’s sustainable potential with accreditation from the Green Building Council of Australia.
2014
SHAWOOD’s first Australian homes are released at Gledswood Hills, selling out in a single weekend.
2015
We partner with golfing champion and luxury property developer, Greg Norman, to create a golf course at Gledswood Hills: the foundation of our Norman Estates SHAWOOD homes.
2019
We mark 10 years in Australia with the launch of SHINKA House, the first Net Zero Energy home by SHAWOOD outside Japan.
2021
We mark a milestone, with the completion of Australia’s 500th SHAWOOD home.
2022
We expand our SHAWOOD community portfolio around Greater Sydney, acquiring land to build hundreds of homes over the decade to come.
2023
Construction begins on Australia’s 750th SHAWOOD home, as Norman Estates nears completion with final homes under construction.
