Sekisui House’s commitment to a cause: a year in reflection
At Sekisui House, a major part of our core philosophy ‘Love of Humanity’ is service. While we continually strive to deliver the highest quality homes and communities to Australians, we are also committed to giving back to the community and those in need.
As part of this commitment, this year we continued to partner with the Property Industry Foundation, to raise awareness on youth homelessness, and provide support to those in need, building on the work we did with them in 2023.
We engaged in some great initiatives throughout the year, including the Sydney Charity Regatta, donating much-needed equipment and maintaining facilities for young Australians.
Sydney Charity Regatta
In March, we were proud to be a part of the Sydney Charity Regatta, with a collective aim to make a meaningful difference to the lives of 44,000 young Australian’s who are currently facing homelessness. We continue to be grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a pivotal cause and remain committed to the journey of providing essential aid and assistance to those experiencing homelessness.
Technology donation
In July, we had the opportunity to contribute back to the community by providing much-needed laptops to help those in need. Through our partnership with Property Industry Foundation (PIF) we were able provide a second life to 16 laptops to charities and organisations including:
- Please Stay Foundation, who offer a holistic approach to youth mental health
- The Girls Refuge, a crisis centre for women and girls aged 12 – 17 offering a warm, safe environment, tailored to meet their needs
- St Laurence House, a mid-term residential service giving at risk and homeless young people support
- Salvation Army Oasis Youth Accommodation Centre, a safe home for 14-17 year olds in need for 3-6 months before moving into transitional housing.
In August we continued our work with PIF, helping to upgrade a home for youth accommodation – The Salvation Army Oasis Youth Accommodation Centre. Our team were able to revamp the garden and brighten key spaces within to create a warm and welcoming space for young people in need.
To round out the year and continue to give back during the Christmas period, we’ve partnered with PIF to promote the ‘Digital Giving Tree’. Our staff have the option to add a digital bauble to our Giving Tree with a donation helping provide homeless youth with rooms, beds, food and better futures this Christmas. For each donation we placed a orange bauble on our physical tree.
We are proud of what we have achieved this year for young people in need and encourage others to jump on board and support the great work PIF are doing to raise awareness and support their community.
We look forward to what we can achieve with PIF in 2025 to tackle youth homelessness, providing safe, consistent support and help to those in need.
