When we speak with our homeowners, whether they’ve purchased in one of our apartment developments or within one of our masterplanned communities, it reinforces why we do what we do.
 
And when we receive acknowledgement from our industry, it provides a moment to reflect on what we have achieved in over a decade in Australia and celebrate the difference that our team makes every day.
 
I’m delighted to share that the team at Sekisui House Australia recently took out the top spot for both Australian Outdoor Project and Australian Spec Home in the Housing Industry Association’s 2021 Awards.
 
The Common, a 1,500sqm parkland at the heart of West Village in West End, Brisbane, was awarded best ‘Outdoor Project’. The judges recognised The Common for the overall construction and use of innovative climatic responsive design, sustainable features, accessibility, and clever lighting design.

The lush gardens feature interactive play areas, including a sensory water zone, an art installation created with an LED-lighting display, and community events such as markets and free yoga sessions. Simply put, the space offers something for everyone.
 
Our first ZEH: (Net) Zero Energy House in Australia, SHINKA House, won best ‘Spec Home’. The judges acknowledged SHINKA House as a beautifully designed and well-built home that incorporates energy efficiency, environmental elements, and sustainable technology.
 
SHINKA House operates at a net-zero energy level, which means it produces as much energy as it consumes, and shows that active and passive design considerations can deliver a functional, comfortable, and energy-efficient property. Sustainability features include rainwater harvesting, battery storage, lightweight construction, air purification, and an internal vegetable garden.
 
These recent awards are testament to not only what we stand for at Sekisui House, demonstrating the highest standards of design, comfort, aesthetics, and sustainability, but are testament to the calibre of our people and our partners.
 
From the early 1960s, when the first Sekisui House home was built in Japan, to 2009, when we established our presence in Australia, to the present day, we’ve honed our craft, delivering more than 2.5 million homes worldwide, including 60,000 ZEH: (Net) Zero Energy Houses. And we will continue to hone our craft, pushing boundaries with new technology and materials, design principles, and sustainable construction methods, all with people at the core
